5th GRADE MATH BURTON INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY 2001 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. Detroit, MI 48209 Dr. Wilson, Principal Instructor: Mr. Knox I will like to give you a brief overview about myself. My name is Mr. Brandon Knox the new 3rd grade teacher at Burton International Academy. I have taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grade and middle school mathematics. I have been employed with DPS since 2002 before taking a break from teaching in 2010 to explore some other opportunities. The passion and the love I have for children led me back to teaching. I received my bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and My teaching certificate through Wayne State University. I received my Master’s of Art in Teaching degree from Wayne State as well in 2016. Room: 203 Math Book: Envision Math Course Description: The Standards for Mathematical Practice for third grade is to make sense of problems and persevere in solving them; reason abstractly and quantitatively; construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others; model with mathematics; use appropriate tools strategically; attend to precision; look for and make use of structure and look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning. Math Course Topic Overview
Quizzes and Test will mostly occur on Fridays but can occur on other days. For the Test, the students will have a review day before the day of the test. Homework Policy Homework will be given at least three times a week. Late homework will get a reduce grade each day it is late. This is subject to change. Homework may consist of paper and pencil, computer work or Parent Connection Grades and attendance will be assessed using parent connect. Account numbers and pin numbers will be issued for parents and students to have a way to monitor grades. Classroom Procedures
If a student cannot follow the regulations set forth in this document, the following corrective actions will be executed:
Grading Procedure and Scale Grades in the class will be determined by the point calculation method. All assignments are worth a specified number of points. Your grade will be determined by the number of points you earned on each assignment divided by the total possible points. Quizzes and Test are graded on the point system as well but weighted more than other assignments.
